Blood Donations - Why Everyone Can't Donate
Why some homosexual men cannot donate blood
When the recent Bloodmobile visited the Frenchay campus there were some students who felt that the SU shouldn't allow them to visit because the National Blood Service are homophobic in not allowing men who have sex with men to donate blood.
We contacted the National Blood Service who provided us with the following link giving their reasons why they do not accept blood from some people.
See: http://www.nhsbt.nhs.uk/current_issues/mhsm100408.html
It is worth pointing out that the National Blood Service have positive working relationships with both Terence Higgins Trust & NUS LGBT.
