Car Park Improvement Update
Here's an update from UWE on what they have been doing in line with the feedback that you have given. Let us know what you think!
Everyone bangs on about Car Park provision in their manifestos year on year. Since I took office last summer I have sent the crystal clear message to UWE’s transport management that we’re unhappy, several things need to change and investment is well overdue. So here’s the latest! Below is an update from UWE on what they have been doing in line with the feedback that you have given. Let us know what you think!
All car parks
Conditions surveys are regularly being completed by Transport staff to address maintenance and safety issues that are highlighted, these in turn result in works requests being generated.
Signage has been installed in various locations to both provide any information on transport and car parking and to improve clarity for unfamiliar users (way finding/enforcement/line marking and directional signs) very shortly new notice board style sign will be installed at the lodge in CP20 to provide up to date transport news and information.
Frenchay campus general access car parks
Car Park 20
The surface in Car Park 20 a number of weeks ago now and has been holding up far better than before a small number of potholes are being created on heavy wear areas, these are being monitored both by the estates team and by the transport department condition surveys and will be addressed as part of the rolling maintenance program, additionally following the exam period and as soon as occupation levels drop to a sufficient level to enable works car park 20 will be inspected maintained as a whole ready for the new academic year.
The new fence has been completed within car park 20 to improve pedestrian safety for users walking over campus
Car Park 1
Additional signage has been installed at the link from car parks 2 and 3 to reinforce the 2+ message and staff access has been restricted to staff to prevent any single occupancy entry through this point.
Maintenance has been planned within car park 1 to realign and repair any posts that have been knocked.
Car Parks 2 & 3
Although this car park is not currently only open for general access in the evenings and at weekends we will shortly be laying a new permeable surface in this area that will greatly improve the surface for all users and may prove to be a sensible solution for our future needs
Glenside Campus
Work is scheduled to commence at Glenside campus to address the number of pot holes that were caused by the severe weather, works are also being completed to address a number of tree roots that are lifting the surface. For information other works that are planned to commence shortly will create new pathways and improve wheelchair accessibility at various locations on site.
Bower Ashton
Work has now been completed to create a new bus stop and a stepped curb to both protect pedestrians and the corner of the building that has been previously struck by buses.
Work to improve the roundabout has also been completed and a give way line is now in place for vehicles exiting the car park.
We are currently also looking into the feasibility of introducing a number of parking bays for both disabled users and general parking in the underutilised area outside the SU bar
If you would like any more detailed information on the above works please let me know and I will provide, we will as usual continue to provide an update of any further developments through the usual channels.
Feedback on maintenance concerns and welcome any general feedback or innovative ideas to help UWE improve the facilities provided. Feedback can be provided either directly by email to carparking@uwe.ac.uk or via the Facilities helpdesk.
