UWESU / News & Events / SIFE project

Do you want to change the world?

Cut your teeth and learn by doing by starting a SIFE project at UWE - come and find out more on 28 April.

SIFE aims to make a positive economic change in the community by enabling students to share their knowledge with others through self-directed projects.

SIFE teams make a difference by designing projects that bring about economic and social benefits. Taking part will help you develop the confidence and skills to address a need that you can see in your community – and give a great boost to your CV.

Examples of SIFE projects from the 38 UK universities already taking part include –

  • Training young people to run skate festival safely and successfully;
  • Working one-to-one with homeless people to help them back into work and long-term accommodation;
  • Running a student enterprise conference for students and enterprise days in schools;
  • A social enterprise providing low cost international volunteering;
  • Set up an apple juice social enterprise with people with learning difficulties and behavioural disorders ;
  • International projects helping women in developing countries to build new businesses that provide an income to educate their children and escape the cycle of poverty .

SIFE – Students in Free Enterprise – is an international organisation that provides leadership and team-building training, mentoring from business and hosts a national competition – with the UK winners going forward to an international final to be held in Los Angeles in 2010.

To run at UWE a student team needs to form by June – if you are interested in taking this forward, contact iwona.tempowski@uwe.ac.uk tel 0117 32 82763 (Wed – to Fri) or attend an information session on 28th April.
